Travelog using acrylics — making a large scale travel sketchbook, and learning how to use one’s sketches
Building landscapes and real-life scenes with acrylics, on location and from sketches
Five days to complete a series of paintings, and elaborate a documentary-sketchbook on the Ile de Ré. Landscapes and real-life scenes will inspire us: sea, villages, arts and crafts, fauna and flora… As well as light. The climate on the Ile de Ré is temperate, enjoyable in March.
We will consider the sketchbook as a documentary series, combining paintings made outdoors (on location), and interpretation works made from these images. The workshop teaches how to use acrylics in a fast way, to create one’s colors and develop a personal palette, to choose one’s subjects and compose.
It is also an occasion to bring back a complete sketchbook on one specific destination, worked on during several days.
5 days course, 30 hours of teaching, in a group of 4 to 8 students (+ Danièle, our hostess, and Véronique, who cooks for us), from 9:30AM to 12:30PM (outdoors) and from 5:00PM to 8:00PM (in one of the houses where the group is accommodated) everyday, with a break in the afternoon to continue one’s work or to rest. Teaching is available in French and English.
Half-board accommodation (breakfast and dinner) in three charming houses located 100 meters from the sea, in Sainte-Marie-la-Noue. Decorated with taste by a local painter and artist, the houses have respectively 4 bedrooms, 3 bedrooms, and 2 bedrooms + a sofa-bed in the living-room (shared bathrooms, living-rooms and kitchens).
A beautiful and comfortable place, to paint in a harmonious atmosphere!
Teaching
Half-board accommodation (including breakfast, bed sheets, towels, house cleaning): 5 nights (from Saturday, March 1st to Wednesday, March 5th included)
Dinners: 5 evening meals (from Saturday, March 1st to Wednesday, March 5th included).
The breakfast is abundant. The dinner, made by a young woman from the Ile de Ré who cooks with natural products, includes a main course and a dessert. Local wine as an extra.
For lunch, it is possible to cater in the village or to go to the restaurant.
Transportation to the Ile de Ré: participants buy their own tickets to Sainte-Marie-la-Noue (which allows you to arrive earlier, or leave a bit later after the end of the workshop). From Paris, TGV train to La Rochelle, then bus to Sainte-Marie-la-Noue.
Also think of carpooling, sometimes convenient from certain areas.
Make sure you get there at the latest on Saturday, March 1st at 4:30PM, so that we can start the workshop well on time (first work session from 5:00PM to 8:00PM on Saturday, March 1st; the workshop ends on Thursday, March 6th at 12:30PM).
The workshop is open to everyone, it is not necessary to know how to draw or use acrylics already. Experience shows that even someone who has never held a pen before gets, through a workshop, to surprise oneself, and to produce the most unexpected pages.
And that those who already have a regular practice of drawing discover other facets and new possibilities to their work.
The goal is, for each of us during the workshop, to progress, to sharpen one’s eye, to explore and exploit one’s creativity, and to have fun! And to live a travel experience that is different, unique, close to local life…
You will get the opportunity, through this workshop, to work on painting, with the texture effects and formats it implies, while building a personal and accomplished travelog.
And to relax, enjoy the sea air, and savor the beautiful landscapes!
